Description

ABOUT AIRWALLEX Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own. We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles https://www.airwallex.com/en-us/operating-principles to see it in full. REAL-TIME TRANSACTION MONITORING ANALYST HOW YOU'LL MAKE IMPACT As a Real-Time Transaction Monitoring Analyst, you’ll help protect Airwallex’s payments and card programmes by reviewing real-time transaction monitoring and screening alerts, identifying potential financial crime risks, and escalating cases in line with defined procedures. You’ll investigate issuing-related activity, perform holistic post-monitoring alert reviews, and provide clear recommendations when incidents require escalation. You’ll also contribute to AML projects, regulatory readiness, and process improvements that strengthen the efficiency and quality of our financial crime operations. - Clear and escalate real-time transaction monitoring alerts in the case management system, following predefined transaction monitoring procedures. - Review and resolve transaction screening alerts in Airwallex’s systems in line with established screening procedures. - Conduct holistic reviews of post-monitoring alerts, identifying relevant customer, transaction, and financial crime risk indicators. - Actively handle issuing investigations, escalating issuing incidents promptly with practical recommendations for resolution. - Coordinate with teams involved in issuing and acquiring initiatives to support consistent transaction monitoring and investigation outcomes. - Contribute to AML-related projects and initiatives that improve operational excellence, efficiency, and control effectiveness. - Stay current on AML news, regulatory developments, and card-scheme requirements, helping strengthen the team’s knowledge base and in-house expertise. You’ll work on site in Malaysia with possible one week duty of night shift monthly. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Essentials - Bachelor’s degree and 2–4 years of relevant AML and sanctions experience in fintech, financial services, litigation, or a regulatory environment. - Familiarity with common money laundering schemes, sanctions compliance, general and risk-based compliance, risk management, and broader financial crime compliance. - Hands-on experience clearing transaction monitoring or screening alerts and conducting financial crime investigations. - Ability to analyse common AML typologies and assess customer and transaction activity using a risk-based approach. - Understanding of AML regulatory requirements and card-scheme regulations. - Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to clear or escalate cases accurately within defined procedures and timelines. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain investigation findings and escalation recommendations clearly. - Ability to work collaboratively across transaction monitoring, issuing, acquiring, compliance, and operational teams. Preferred - Experience with international, regional, or local AML and sanctions regulatory requirements. - Experience conducting AML or OFAC risk assessments. - Experience developing policies and procedures, including blacklists, whitelists, or STR writing and review. - Experience with KYC, transaction monitoring, case management, or sanctions compliance vendor solutions. - Strong data analysis skills, including advanced Google Sheets, Google Apps Script, or SQL. YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF - You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken. - You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway. - You've operated in a compliance-heavy environment and know how to move fast without cutting the corners that matter. - You connect dots across functions and hold the big picture without losing grip on the details. - You say what you mean. You're direct, but you lead with respect. LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR TEAM Operations at Airwallex is where global ambition gets translated into systems that actually hold at scale. This team runs the high-stakes flows businesses depend on — payments, accounts, and cross-border transactions. The work sits at the intersection of product, compliance, and customer experience. The problems are rarely simple: balancing speed with rigor, global consistency with local reality, and immediate execution with the stronger systems a growing company needs next. It's a function for operators with a builder mentality: trusted to take ownership, work cross-functionally with product and risk, and create new processes for things that have not existed before. If you want to help build the operational backbone of a global financial platform, this is work that keeps the whole machine moving.
