You don't need to show everything
A product designer may work on many different screens and projects.
That does not mean all of them need to be in the portfolio.
A portfolio is not a storage place for every design you have made.
Choose a few projects that show different parts of your experience.
Tell the story behind the project
A screenshot can show what the product looks like.
It does not show why you designed it that way.
For each project, explain:
- What was the problem?
- Who was the user?
- What did you work on?
- What decisions did you make?
- What changed after your work?
This gives people a better idea of how you think.
Show your process
You don't need to show every Figma frame.
Instead, show the important parts of the process.
For example:
Problem → Research → Ideas → Prototype → Testing → Final design
This makes the project easier to understand.
Explain your decisions
One of the most useful things in a case study is the reason behind a decision.
Maybe you changed a flow because users were confused.
Maybe you removed a step because it slowed people down.
Maybe you changed the information structure because important data was difficult to find.
These details show your design thinking.
Talk about the result
If you have real results, include them.
This could be:
- Faster task completion
- More successful applications
- Better usability
- Fewer support requests
- Higher conversion
- Positive user feedback
Not every project has a perfect metric.
If you don't have numbers, explain what changed.
Keep it easy to read
A good portfolio should not feel like homework.
Use clear headings and short sections.
Don't make every paragraph long.
Let the important screens have enough space.
The person reviewing your portfolio should understand the project without spending a lot of time searching for the main point.
Your portfolio is part of your story
A portfolio is not only about beautiful UI.
It should help someone understand what kind of designer you are, what problems you can solve, and how you work with other people.
A few strong projects with a clear story can be more useful than a website full of screenshots.
